The impressive Royal Palace of Naples can’t be missed if you choose to stay in one of the apartments of the boutique hotel Il Salotto della Regina. It’s located in Piazza del Plebiscito, in the heart of the historic Naples.
It was originally built by Domenico Fontana from 1600 on the commission of Viceroy Fernando Ruiz de Castro and it was the residence of some of the most important royal families in Europe.
The Royal Palace of Naples has undergone several transformations over time, the last one during the reign of Ferdinand Il Borbone between 1838 and 1858. After the Unity of Italy it became the residence of the Savoy family, which in 1919, with Vittorio Emanuele III of Savoia in power, sold it to the state democracies and converted it into a museum. Today, the oldest halls are part of the Historic House, which includes the Court Theater, the Throne Hall, the Mariacristine Hall of Savoy, and the Royal Chapel.
